Lightning in a Bottle: Building a Successful Coding Program in Middle School

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In 2015, the Commonwealth of Virginia created a course code 527000, Coding At Middle School (CAMS). Blue Ridge Middle, in Loudoun County, was the first to offer a full year elective coding course in seventh grade. Virginia is preparing to release K-12 Computer Science standards which will require computer science instruction in all grade levels. Come listen to one of the original team members and the classroom teacher talk about their journey from an idea to lightning in a bottle. Our program grew from one school to 10 in 2 years, and is going to be offered in all Loudoun County middle schools in 2018-2019. We can help you get your program started by sharing our experience, curriculum resources, our ideas and our plans for the future.
