Utilizing a Digital Daily 5 Approach during Your Reading Block

Are you looking to super empower your students by taking your reading block to the next level? Do you feel responsible for teaching students technology skills in an authentic context but find it challenging to work into your already busy day? You can make this happen... for free, and we will show you how we have super empowered our students for learning it in our upper elementary classrooms.

Using Google Classroom, you will receive ideas for whole group instruction, guided reading groups, independent work, student/teacher conferencing, writing, data collection, classroom management, and parent communication. Bring a device because you will join a sample google classroom to experience what a digital Daily 5 structure would look like from a student's perspective as well as have an avenue to access mentioned resources from the session.

While teaching reading with technology is the focal point of this session, many technology standards are covered as a bi-product of technology integration in your classroom. They include: C/T 3-5.1 Demonstrate an operational knowledge of various technologies. C/T 3-5.2 Identify and use available technologies to complete specific tasks. C/T 3-5.3 Make responsible decisions—grounded in knowledge of digital safety and security best practices—that pertain to various digital communication tools and methods.
C/T 3-5.5 Demonstrate digital citizenship by actively participating in positive activities for personal and community well-being. C/T 3-5.8 Practice reasoning skills when gathering and evaluating data. C/T 3-5.10 Communicate effectively with others (e.g., peers, teachers, experts) in collaborative learning situations. C/T 3-5.11 Apply knowledge and skills to generate innovative ideas, products, processes, and solutions.

This session is geared towards upper elementary classroom teachers of reading or all subjects. Many take-aways are here for those new to Google Classroom and it's capabilities for super empowering your students in reading and technology in general. Come and see.
